The 15th Annual Tools of the Trade Bull Sale was an excellent sale for Wilbar Farms! A great crowd full of mostly repeat buyers with some new customers as well was excellent to be a part of. Commercial customers were open about their success with the Wilbar cattle and not only the quality of the bulls that were being bought but any after sale service that was needed was second to none. The bulls were conditioned just right offering their growth potential but a very sound set of bulls. Another great job done by The Wilms family.

Ter-ron and Redrich put on a real nice sale with a high quality set of bulls that were available in anyones price range. Stout, muscled up breeding bulls that will serve the commercial or purebred industry well.  Castlerock was able to actively bid on some bulls/heifers and placed one bull, 22W to Belanger Farms $4000.

A very good crowd gathered for the Clark Angus Farm Dispersal drawing bidders/buyers from Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta and Montana. Strong support was also felt by the many good friends and customers of the Clark Family. Bidding was steady with Volume buyers being CT Farms, Ossasswa, Double F Cattle Co, Bar JP and Blairs.Ag (Castlerock on order). Undoubtedly a good sale for some of the very good people who have been in the Angus business.

The sunshine was warm and bright on April 5th for the 3rd Annual Eastondale Angus "On the Farm Bull Sale" with guest consignor Rockin Ox, Clint and Shelly Oxtoby. The Easton family consisting of Dale, Shelly and Erica Easton has been a longstanding family involved in breeding Purebred Angus cattle for close to 60 years now. A real nice set of bulls that were well accepted by the primarily repeat customer base with a few new customers being two of the top sellers this year.

The Olynyk family at Crescent Creek hosted yet another successful bull sale, actually this sale would the 12th consecutive function held at this Century Farm. An excellent set of Bulls and Heifers on offer selling to primarily repeat customers that Crescent Creek has earned the respect of with cattle that truly work. If you have ever been to visit the Olynyk family you will also remember the hospitality, a tremendous amount of preparation goes into preparing the meals and you won't leave the farm being disappointed in any manner. As anyone who has ever laid foot on the farm at LLB you know that your treatment is second to none. The 24th Annual LLB Spring Spectacular Bull and Female Sale was another hit. What makes this sale so unique besides the great family of Lee, Laura, Jackie Brown and Tim and Trish Henderson and the large amount of quality cattle selling is the fact that a tremendous amount of breeders can be found from this sale from across Canada. You have to witness the setup and the manpower it takes to make a sale of this magnitude happen, absolutely awesome! Castlerock was able to place 2 heifers and 2 bulls out of this sale besides 48 head of commercial yearling heifers. Job well done to LLB!

Bar EL Red and Black Angus Bull Sale

A fabulous day near Byemoor, Ab full of sunshine and warm weather and terrific set of bull. Hosted by the hard working Longshore family comprised of Dave, Lynne and Tanis as well Dallas and his Family and Sandy Longshore, Dave's father. Unfortunately Dave and Lynne's daughter Jenna wasn't able to attend the sale as she is in Germany taking some schooling on a 11 month Ag-Exchange. A big crowd of near 200 people attended the Bull Sale and participated in having the sale average $3816 on the Red and Black Angus Bulls. High Selling Red Angus Bull was 144W who sold to T-K and McMillen Ranching in Saskatchewan. High Selling Black Angus Bull was 77W to Section 7, the Decorby's. Castlerock purchased 2 bulls on order to Jeff Schneider of Madison, Wisconsin and as well Krupski Farms in Saskatchewan. New for the sale this year was an awesome steak supper after the sale as well a great host of deserts which left nobody unsatisfied.

Remington Land & Cattle Sales Report
Cardston, Ab

As expected the Remington crew delivered a excellent set of bulls with the always great hospitality. Another beautiful day in sunny Southern Alberta with a strong crowd of buyers from the USA, Canada and Mexico. The market was active all day long settling in for steady prices to accomplish what Remington has intended, providing good bulls for good money for their commercial customers. However purebred breeders were also active in some bidding as well with the High Selling Bull being a son of the Remington/ LLB sire, "Old Post" who brought $16,000 for lot 8 to American breeders from Nebraska. Castlerock placed lot 17 to Lazy E Bar Ranch at Bashaw, Ab for $5750. Hats off to the Gary Rairdan and Bryon Wolters and staff who put forth a first class sale to average $3106 on 188 bulls.

Western Angus Sales Report
Cardston, Ab

A typical sunny day in Southern Alberta with a temperature of +10 set the tone for a great day to have a bull sale on February 26th. Perlich Bros Auction Barn was the sale site just outside of Lethbridge. An active crowd filled with predominantly repeat buyers put together a solid bull sale for Western Angus which averaged $2522 with a high of $4700 for Lot 9125 to Audrey Taylor. As the commercial market has been strengthening it was reflective in the open heifers which were offered as they averaged just shy of $800.

Western Angus is owned and operated by Wes and Wendy Merrill of Cardston, Ab where this family run operation is alive and well. The herd has been a great source of carcass genetics which are actively working in leading herds in Western Canada such as Remington Land and Cattle, Mountain View Farms, Doenz Ranches and Triple J Farms in Saskatchewan. Wes is a real student of the breed taking his job as a seedstock producer very seriously in providing genetics to his loyal customer base but to also sustain and solidify his herd of good cows. If you make it down to Cardston make sure you look Wes and family up as they are 5 minutes out of Cardston.

Chapman Cattle Co Sales Report
Stettler, Ab

A large crowd attended the Chapman Cattle Company '100% Forage Developed' 2 Year Old Bull & Female Sale Thursday, February 11th,2010. A large majority of the buyers were repeat buyers with many of them buying 2 to 5 bulls. Buyers attended the sale from British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba. 55 bulls averaged $2,950.

High-Selling Bull:

Lot 22 (Crowfoot Joker 6172S x OCC Joker 620J) to Ole Farms Ltd. at $6,400.

High-Selling Cow:

Lot 133 (OCC Bonanza 880B x Brown Creek Rito 414) to Forsyth Ranch. .

Castlerock Marketing purchased 2 bulls and 6 heifers that were destined for Ontario as well 2 bulls to be placed in a good commercial herd in Manitoba as well the High Selling Cow to Forsyth Ranch. The interest in the program is certainly growing and with the quality of the offering and the number of repeat buyers there are no signs of the program slowing down.

A packed sale barn was the scene for the 5th Annual Select Genetic Bull Sale on Family Day, Monday the 15th of February. Highlights of the sale besides the big crowd and a good sale was the fundraiser for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation which a commercial heifer was donated and raised $4550 with all proceeds going to the JDRF. Lucky winner of the commercial heifer was Art Buckingham.
